By automating lifting tasks, these solutions can significantly reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as back pain, shoulder injuries, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Ergonomic lifting solutions can improve efficiency and productivity by reducing downtime due to injuries and improving overall worker performance.
These solutions can create a safer work environment by minimizing the risk of accidents and injuries associated with manual lifting.
Automated lifting devices can often provide greater precision and accuracy than manual lifting, leading to improved product quality and reduced waste.
In the long run, ergonomic lifting solutions can save money by reducing healthcare costs, lost productivity, and workers’ compensation claims.

This custom vacuum end effector uses four suction cups to grab the sinks by the bottom. It pivots 200 degrees around the vertical axis and 360 degrees around the horizontal axis to manipulate the parts. Both rotations incorporate Belleville disc springs, allowing adjustable tension. The arm’s up/down motion is controlled with a joystick, while a lever valve controls the vacuum on/off.
The custom end effector is built to pick up 35 lb. gas tanks, featuring a pneumatic gripper with rubber contact points to protect the part and enhance grip. An air regulator adjusts the gripper force, and the end effector rotates the tank 180° around the vertical axis. A joystick controls the arm’s up/down motion, while the gripper’s open/close can be operated by either a lever valve or two-hand control. If using the lever valve, a load-sensing feature ensures the part isn’t released until it’s set on a solid surface.
This solution is a dual-purpose end effector designed to grab both the inner and outer diameters (ID and OD) of parts weighing up to 30 lbs. It features two pneumatic grippers—one for gripping the ID of parts (39-75mm) and the other for gripping the OD (230-313mm). Knurled rubber contact points protect the part and ensure a secure grip. The grippers pivot approximately 270° around the vertical axis, and the ID gripper rotates 270° around the horizontal axis to align the main spindle pins with the part’s holes. The part is always held in a vertical orientation. Separate lever valves control the open/close of each gripper, while the arm’s up/down movement is controlled using a joystick.
This custom solution is designed to pick up quartz cylinders weighing up to 40 lbs. The end effector features a pneumatic gripper that clamps around the outside diameter of the cylinder. The gripper fingers have a V-shaped design to accommodate an outside diameter range of 8” – 10”. They are lined with knurled rubber for a secure grip and to prevent scratching. The end effector rotates approximately 180° around the vertical axis. The arm’s up/down motion is controlled by a joystick, while the gripper’s open/close is managed by a lever valve.
This custom end effector pick and place solution is designed to lift and manipulate parts weighing up to 40 lbs. The unit will be mounted to a pedestal and used with a mobile counterweight base. The end effector will rotate freely around both the vertical and horizontal axes. The horizontal axis rotation will include compression washers, allowing the resistance to rotation to be adjusted to prevent drift when the operator is not actively moving it. The end effector will contact the four holes in the part using four pins, with the design of the pins directed by the customer.
This custom end effector is designed for bin picking applications, specifically for handling cylindrical parts within a size range of 3.50 inches to 4.33 inches. The end effector features two axes of motion—vertical and horizontal pivots—enabling it to reach and grasp parts in various positions within its workspace. The gripper mechanism includes two jaws that open and close to securely grasp and release parts. The jaws are adjustable to accommodate different part diameters, ensuring a precise grip. Knurled rubber pads on the jaws provide a secure, non-slip grip, preventing slippage and part damage.
This custom end effector is designed to lift gas meters weighing up to 78 lbs. It utilizes a pneumatic gripper with adjustable fingers to securely clamp onto the sides of the meter. The gripper can accommodate part sizes ranging from 11.25″ to 17.125″ and is lined with knurled rubber pads to ensure a firm, non-slip grip. Two axes of motion—vertical and horizontal pivots—allow the end effector to rotate and position the gas meter as needed. The gripper exerts a force of 144 lbs at 90 PSI, providing ample strength to handle heavy loads. The part can rotate up to 220° around the vertical axis, and handles are included for easier manipulation. The gripper is controlled via a manual lever valve for precise operation.
This specialized arm is engineered to counterbalance the weight and maintain the perpendicularity of an Enerpac RCH-123. The design incorporates a pneumatically counterbalanced, extended working range version of FlexArm’s standard B-19 arm, tailored to meet the requirements specified in “Option A” of the ARM FOR ENERPAC – 3 OPTIONS.pdf.
The mount allows for 360° vertical rotation and includes a drop-down shaft to reach over the stack of parts and access the bottom piece. It secures the tool with a bore clamp around its 2.75” diameter, featuring a cutout in the lower half to accommodate hydraulic lines.
The image shows FlexArm’s solution to meet the requirements outlined in the special application packet. FlexArm will design and manufacture a custom ICVA-G36 model arm and tool mount to counterbalance RAD Torque System’s ERAD 2500 tool (40 lbs.). The tool will rotate 360 degrees around its drive axis, and the mount will allow the tool to tilt roughly +/- 20 degrees in any direction using two horizontal pivots.
The axis labeled “horizontal tilt axis 1” in the image can be locked with a pin when the tool is used perpendicular to the arm’s mounting surface. The ERAD 2500 must always use a reaction bar. The arm and mount will not react to torque.
The image to the right represents FlexArm’s solution to meet the needs specified in the special application packet. FlexArm will design and manufacture a custom mount to hold FlexArm’s horizontal grinder with an M-60 model arm. A working range drawing of the arm can be found here. The mount will allow the tool to pivot about the horizontal axes so that the tool can be used at an angle, as indicated by the arrows in the image.
This custom mount is designed to hold Aircat’s 1994 1” Impact Tool on the G-30 model arm with maximum cylinders. It counterbalances the tool’s 35-pound weight and enables rotation around both vertical and horizontal axes, as shown by the red arrows in the image.
The mount attaches to the tool using the bolt pattern between the handle and body, ensuring a secure fit. To enhance mobility, the arm is mounted on a custom mobile base, allowing it to be easily moved around the workspace.
This custom tool mount is designed to hold Universal Tool’s UT8630 chisel scaler on the G-30 model arm. This solution counterbalances the tool’s weight and maintains a vertical-down orientation, keeping it perpendicular to the work surface.Rubber padding inside the mount protects the arm and minimizes vibrations felt by the user. A dead handle with a remote trigger start further reduces vibration exposure. To use the remote trigger, the tool’s main trigger must be secured in the “on” position. The mount clamps around the tool’s body near the area indicated in the image.
This custom mount is designed to hold Nelson’s NS20 stud gun on the M-60 model arm, featuring a clamp that secures the tool around its body. The mount holds the tool in a vertical orientation and allows it to rotate 180° around the vertical axis, improving ergonomics by enabling the tool to move naturally with the user’s wrist. This configuration enhances comfort and usability during operation.
